About

Joshua Martin

Joshua Martin is a third year journalism student at RMIT University.

He works casually as a news writer and features contributor for NME Australia, and as an editorial consultant for MTV Australia. He has previously written for a variety of outlets on music and media, including  Junkee, Crikey, Beat Magazine and Tone Deaf. In 2020, he interned for The Age, The Canberra Times and The Canberra Weekly.

Josh’s 2019 Crikey article ‘Is there a future for Australian Music Journalism?‘ started an industry-wide debate about malpractise and poor editorial strategy in local music media. Crikey issued a follow-up piece, collating the various responses.

Josh’s freelance work to date is incisive in under-scrutinised areas of music and media. He also has an aptitude for community reporting, with experience overseas for famed US college paper The Diamondback.
